Just hours after the announcement AIADMK Leaves NDA , the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) tabled a resolution to dissolve its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). According to BJP leader in Tamil Nadu C.T. Ravi, “Mr. K. Annamalai is leading a great effort to strengthen a prominent party.”
AIADMK Leaves NDA
Under the direction of party leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, a high-level meeting was held at the AIADMK headquarters during which the decision to leave the NDA was reached. When the Tamil Nadu BJP head made some remarks criticising former chief ministers C. N. Annadurai and the late C.M. Jayalalitha, tensions between the saffron party and AIADMK had increased.
“We have eight months left, and we cannot predict what will happen in these months,” BJP leader C.T. Ravi told the news outlet ANI. Every party member has a responsibility to advance the party. Under K. Annamalai’s direction, a big work of building the party is undertaken.
‘We are taking this proposal based on the thoughts of our members,’ AIADMK spokesperson Shashirekha said. For us, this is a very joyful time. We are content to contest the forthcoming parliamentary and assembly elections alone.
Currently in Coimbatore on a padayatra, or foot march, Shri Annamalai declared, “Our national leadership will respond.”
He had initially refused to back down but had countered that his views were historical and needed to be viewed in the light of the issue surrounding comments made against Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s ancestral faith.
The South Indian party maintained its demand that Shri Annamalai either apologise for his remarks regarding C.N. Annadurai or the late C.M. Jayalalitha or resign as a “non-controversial leader” at a meeting held in Delhi on Saturday, the penultimate attempt to patch up strained relations. Shri Annamalai, the creator of the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), received guidance from C.N. Annadurai.
At that meeting, a top AIADMK leader claimed that the conversation was “cordial,” but M. Chakravarti of the BJP’s remarks painted a different picture.Due of his crucial role in reviving the party, the leadership vehemently opposes the thought of shifting Annamalai, he emphasised.”He had only made a comment about Annadurai during the controversy over ancestral religion.”
When former party head D. Jayakumar declared, “We will decide on the alliance before the elections,” the partnership was about to collapse last week. We don’t want to form an alliance with Annamalai, the BJP state president, he had said. He only criticises late leaders. Why should we bring you along? Here, the BJP cannot gain any ground.
