Google’s Smartphone Manufacturing in India, In a major move to further the “Make in India” campaign, Google is now joining Apple and Samsung in producing smartphones in India. In front of Ashwini Vaishnav, India’s Minister of Electronics and IT, Google revealed its ambitions to start producing Pixel phones in the nation in its ninth generation for the country.

According to Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President for Devices and Services at Google, the first Pixel phone manufactured in India will be on sale in 2024. Google is working with both local and foreign partners to manufacture hardware in India in order to do this. Although Google hasn’t revealed the identities of its partners, it was previously rumoured that the business was in discussions with well-known Indian suppliers like Dixon Technologies India, Lava International Limited, and Bharat FIH, Foxconn’s Indian division.

The company’s most recent hardware offering, the Google Pixel 8, was introduced in India and around the world earlier this month. Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro can be purchased starting on October 12 for a price of INR 75,999 and INR 1,06,999, respectively.

Thanks to alluring production-based incentive schemes, India has become a manufacturing hub for both exports and local consumption in recent years.  India currently produces goods valued at about $44 billion and exports goods valued at about $11 billion, according to Minister Ashwini Vaishnav of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Apart from the Pixel, Google also plans to produce Chromebooks in India. The top in the PC industry, HP, teamed up with Google last month to start making Chromebooks in India. Running Google’s Chromebook OS, Chromebooks are affordable PCs with built-in security and accessibility capabilities.

It was previously rumoured that Google was in discussions to produce Pixel smartphones in India with producers like Dixon Technologies, Bharat FIH, and Lava. Google hasn’t revealed which of these producers will make Pixel devices in the nation, though, at today’s presentation. Furthermore, neither the manufacturing capacity nor the precise place of production have been disclosed by Google.

In related news, Google and HP have teamed up to produce Chromebooks locally in India. Google and HP have both stated that this supports the government’s Made in India programme. HP will produce the new Chromebooks at its Chennai plant, where it has been producing a variety of laptops and desktops since 2020.

The Pixel 8 is Google’s first smartphone project to be produced in India, as was previously announced. Recall that earlier this month, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro were introduced in India. Whereas the Pixel 8 Pro has a 50MP triple-camera setup, the Pixel 8 has a 50MP dual-camera setup. Both gadgets include an integrated 10.5MP selfie camera and come pre-installed with Android 14. While the vanilla variant has 27W fast charging, the Pro model offers 30W fast charging.

• Memory and storage : The smartphone has 8GB of RAM and options for 128GB and 256GB of storage.

• Cameras : It is equipped with two cameras: a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens and a 50MP wide angle lens. The Pixel 8 has a 10.5MP front camera for taking selfies.

• Battery and charging : The smartphone has a 4,575mAh battery that can enable 30W rapid charging. In addition, it has battery sharing and Qi rapid wireless charging compatibility, so you may charge other devices.
